Umm, WOW!

Many of you realized that I signed on as a Food Buzz Featured Publisher in the fall. However I did not realize what a great group of people Food Buzz is. I was invited to a spectacular publisher dinner at The Slanted Door, and it was spectacular!

Photos to follow soon I hope – these are a thoughtful gift because I forgot my handy camera.

Happy 1st Anniversary!

Today marks the first anniversary of The Whole Wheat! As 2008 gets underway I can’t help but thank all of the readers of The Whole Wheat for such a fun and exciting year! 2007 was full of adventures and excitement for me here on this site, and I hope it spilled over for you too! Here are a few highlights from 2007:

WOW! What a year! :-D I’m working hard to organize myself for 2008, so soon we’ll roll out new plans!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

2007, not over yet!

December 29, 2007 in general

2007 is rapidly approaching its end, and as you may have noticed, I have been busy with the holidays.  Even though the posts have been infrequent, the cooking has not!  Great adventures were had while visiting my parents in Portland: a slowly cooked turkey, candied orange peels, a huge pot of turkey stock, and my favorite black bean soup to name a few.  Photos must be found and downloaded, recipes entered, and the goodness will be shared.  Hang in there – 2007 on The Whole Wheat isn’t quite over yet.

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday with your families too though – and make fun New Year’s plans!

The Whole Wheat Cookbook

December 6, 2007 in general

I have a very special announcement today! Even though 2007 is not over, some of my favorite recipes from the year have found their way into my first cookbook. :-) Though you would not know by its petite stature, this book was a labor of love. Countless hours in front of my computer working on The Whole Wheat website, many hours combing through recipes for the first draft, searching multiple hard drives for photos from the year past, and the layout & editing – woo! What a task it was, and I am insanely proud of the results.

For this first little book, I focused on vegetarian dishes and tried to cull some of what I consider my core recipes from the site. Additionally I think I included a nice combination of basics with good easy instructions, and a few recipes with a bit more punch. Nothing in this book is too complex though – I wanted to keep it simple and encouraging. My goal was for it to represent the purpose of this site – to make cooking healthy tasty & fun, but also to see if just maybe you might try a new vegetable or two. :-)

If you are interested in purchasing a copy, nothing would make me happier! (I recommend the hardcover, the softcover is smaller than I expected.) The recipes are directly from TheWholeWheat.com and all photographs are my own. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

And stick around, we’ve only gotten warmed up around here! ;)

Happy Thanksgiving

November 23, 2007 in general

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! A day late. Only because I was very busy in the kitchen then busy having fun with friends and a fully tummy! I’ll be posting recipes & photos in the upcoming days but here is a run down of the menu:

The watercress dip was accented on an appetizer table by amazing cheese sticks, homemade flat breads, and tuna-avocado tartar that our friends brought. I am sure there was more on the apps table but I will have to ask nicely for recipes. ;) The Cranberry Bars were joined by a Pumpkin Banana Tart and a classic Pumpkin Pie. All the desserts were delicious!

I hope your Thanksgiving was as delicious and fun as ours was. Enjoy the weekend!

Optimal Health

November 7, 2007 in general

Wednesday already? This week is flying by! I thought I would post a wonderful video that features part of a talk that Pam Popper PhD gave. It really hits the key points in what helps to build optimal health in humans. The video is about 10 minutes long and I would certainly encourage a quick viewing.

I am planning to add a document library to the site soon where I can share articles that I find regarding health & healthy habits. We can call this optimal living week! Enjoy! :)
